In need of a trusted backup quarterback, should the Dallas Cowboys consider Landry Jones, recently let go by the Pittsburgh Steelers?
All eyes were on the backup quarterback position for the Dallas Cowboys the final weeks of the preseason. That’s because the play of Cooper Rush seemed to have tailed off some after surprising as an undrafted rookie last season.
Coming from nowhere, the young man showed poise and accuracy while eventually elevating to second on the depth chart and becoming a folk hero for the fans since he had a hand in the team finally moving on from Kellen Moore for good — well at least as a player.
This year felt different though as Rush looked like he was in over his head and should make the team nervous to think they’re one snap away from leaning on him under center.

If they’re hesitant at all for such a scenario, Landry Jones should be a consideration. The former Oklahoma Star was recently released by the Pittsburgh Steelers and could give Dallas a cost effective, but experienced backup behind Dak Prescott.
It seems only fitting for Jones to land in Big D, considering he was named after legendary Dallas head coach Tom Landry.
Besides the name connection, it makes sense considering Jones’ track record. He has five career starts with a 3-2 record and has had to come in off the bench in a moments notice several times as well.
For his career, he’s completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 1,310 yards with eight touchdowns against seven picks (four of which came in 2015 during his first extensive action).
Dallas keeps saying they’re content with their situation, but Jones should give them reason to at least consider making a change.
