Bears are making sure Trubisky succeeds

Chicago Bears fans haven’t been this excited about a quarterback since Jay Cutler came to town. Yes, I know the results weren’t pretty (whether you liked him or not, one playoff win is not very good), but this is a new era. As I mentioned, the coaches are different (better). Also, I think Trubisky is better.

We’ve already seen the difference. Cutler was aloof, oftentimes spending time alone on the bench until it was time for him to come in. He also gave the impression that he was there just for his paycheck and not much more. Yes, I know half the fandom may disagree but that was the impression he gave and we know impression is reality.

Trubisky, on the other hand, is the leader the Bears need on the field. Even as a rookie, he didn’t shy away from jumping on his teammates. He commanded the huddle and that earned respect from the veterans. That wasn’t all, though. He is also a part of the group. He’s in there celebrating with his teammates.

On the field, Trubisky showed promise last year, even when Fox handcuffed him. He had three games of 16 pass attempts or fewer, one of them fewer than 10 passes. Add a receiving corps that could not create separation or catch balls consistently and it was a minor miracle he had 2,193 yards passing.

Trubisky showed he could make whatever pass you need. While the completions weren’t there, his passes were crisp and mostly on the money. He also showed an ability to throw accurately on the run. In addition, he can use his legs to get out of trouble to extend a play or to go out and run.

This season, he has a plethora of weapons. Whereas Kevin White was a key receiver on the receiving corps last season, if he stays healthy this season he makes the Bears receivers unit of the strongest in the NFL.

The Bears spent a lot on Trubisky’s development in terms of coaching and players. We’ll see this season how much they receive from all that investment.
