Rasheem Green will record at least eight sacks

I guess I’m putting a lot on the rookie third round pick, but he’s capable of living up to these lofty expectations. Green was extremely active during the Preseason, just like he was during his final season at USC.

In 11 games during his junior, and final season, in college Green recorded ten sacks from the defensive tackle position. He’ll probably play more outside for the Seahawks, taking on a defensive end role. He flashed his abilities during the preseason, recording three sacks.

Luckily for Green he won’t need to be the team’s top pass rusher. That role is already filled by the sturdy Frank Clark, who has 19 sacks in the last two seasons. Their relationship looks like it will be mutually beneficial, especially in the coming years as Green improves.

Assuming Green can carry his play from the Preseason into the regular season, he should see a lot of time fairly quickly. Besides Clark the Seahawks have defensive ends Branden Jackson, Dion Jordan, Quinton Jefferson and rookie sixth-round pick Jacob Martin. The only player amongst that group with more than one career sack is Jordan.

All Green needs to do is outplay Jackson and Jefferson, which I think he already has done but I’m not on the field at Seahawks practices, and he’ll nab a ton of snaps alongside Clark and Jordan. Despite being a third round pick, the Seahawks are expecting a lot out of Green. In the best case scenario, he and Clark end up becoming a remix of Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett .
