2018 NFL Picks, score predictions for Week 1
Chicago Bears (0-0) at Green Bay Packers (0-0)
Sunday, Sept. 9, 8:20 PM ET
Yes, I know that everyone seems to think that the Khalil Mack trade has immediately transformed the Chicago Bears into contenders. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t get your hopes too high on that being the case.
Why? Well, for one, there are still plenty of unanswered questions about the Chicago offense. Mitchell Trubisky flashed potential as a rookie, but was relatively unproductive and has a ways to go before he can be seen as a franchise-caliber quarterback. The offensive line has issues as well. Put simply, we can’t assume the Bears defense is going to carry them to the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Packers have Aaron Rodgers back in the mix. The defense should be far better than it was a season ago as well. New general manager Brian Gutekunst has this club headed in the right direction after an outstanding offseason filled with underrated moves.
With all of that said, the Bears should keep this one close. Both defenses will grit their teeth and make some big stops, but a late-game flexing of Rodgers’ gunslinging muscles will allow the Packers to escape Week 1 with a win.
Prediction: Packers win 21-20
