The Detroit Lions are a formidable foe for the New York Jets. The Jets will do some unexpected things in this game as they open with the youngest quarterback to start Week 1 in the modern era.

Monday night football under the lights isn’t exactly where you’d expect a 21 year old to begin. Well that’s where New York Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold will find himself come the opening salvo of the 2018 regular season. At 21 years, 99 days old Darnold will be the youngest starting quarterback to start Week 1 since the merger.

There’s a lot of pressure early on the kid, but it seems like he can handle the pressure. For those that think this is his first big stage under the lights — while I know it’s not college — he played a major rivalry game under the lights both years he was under center for USC.

Many are predicting a small incremental step for the Jets in 2018, but their quarterback position is so much improved this season, that, even though he’s a rookie, it’s ok to expect the unexpected, even if that means something you don’t expect in Detroit.
