The Philadelphia Eagles are defending their first-ever Super Bowl in the 2018 season, but how will things play out for the champs?

The 2017 NFL season was almost perfect for the Philadelphia Eagles. They went on to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history and gave their fans a season they will never forget. A big part of the Eagles success was brought by phenomenal moves and team building from Howie Roseman.

Along with Roseman’s masterpiece of a roster, head coach Doug Pederson only got better in every game he coached, leading to his dominant performance in the Super Bowl. The “almost perfect” aspect of the season was not about their record. It was meant to reference the loss of their franchise quarterback, Carson Wentz, who was the frontrunner for NFL MVP before he tore his ACL late in the season.

Luckily, Foles was able to jump in and get the job done, but the injury to Wentz impacts the Eagles past the 2017 season and into the 2018 season. Reports are that Wentz, who has looked great working out before the Eagles preseason games, will not start Week 1 due to his recovery process from his knee injury.

Now, it makes sense for the Eagles to take a cautious approach with Wentz, as playing in three or four extra games this season does not outweigh the next 10-12 years of starting quarterback for the Eagles. Though, it puts a little bit of a damper on the start of the season.

The Eagles will be looking to repeat as champions in 2018, and they will be under the microscope all season. Every team in the NFL will be gunning to beat the defending champs and be the next team to win the Super Bowl.
