Philadelphia Eagles: 2018 Season preview, prediction and more
By Jeremy Klump
Record Prediction
When you are the defending champs, you will be a team that many expect you to win 10 or more games the following year. Let’s take a look at the Eagles schedule and see predict how many wins they will have in 2018.
Week 1: Atlanta Falcons at Eagles
Without Wentz and Jeffery, and coming back from winning the Super Bowl, this is a tough matchup for the Eagles. Will Foles be able to shake off how poor he has played in the preseason? The defense will have a tough matchup as well. It does not seem like a guaranteed win for the Eagles. Prediction: Loss
Week 2: Eagles at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs are not a good football team. Wentz likely will sit this one out as well, but Foles should be okay. Prediction: Win
Week 3: Indianapolis Colts at Eagles
Andrew Luck is back, but the Colts are also back, as in they are back to not being a good football team. Philly should once again sit Wentz and let Foles go to work. Prediction: Win
Week 4: Eagles at Tennessee Titans
Marcus Mariota is poised to finally have that breakout season many have believed he could have, but that will not matter as the Eagles have a better roster across the board. Philly should cruise in this one, and with Foles at quarterback. Prediction: Win
Week 5: Minnesota Vikings at Eagles
This will likely be the return of Wentz, but who knows. Even if Wentz returns, this will be a tough game for the Eagles. Prediction: Loss
Week 6: Eagles at New York Giants
The Giants may have one of the sneakiest teams in 2018. If Eli Manning can get back on track, watch out for the G-Men. Prediction: Loss
Week 7: Carolina Panthers at Eagles
Cam Newton is fun to watch, but the Eagles usually play well against him. Philly’s defense will be the difference maker in this one. Prediction: Win
Week 8: Eagles at Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville has a great defense, but their offense is questionable, at best. Prediction: Win
Week 10: Dallas Cowboys at Eagles
Do not tell a Dallas Cowboys fans this, but the Cowboys roster is not very good. If you stop their rushing attack, you will likely beat them. Prediction: Win
Week 11: Eagles at New Orleans Saints
The only team I was nervous for the Eagles to play in the playoffs was the Saints. They are loaded with talent and have Drew Brees still. Prediction: Win
Week 12: Giants at Eagles
After getting the Eagles in Week 6, Philly gets it figured out and bounces back. Prediction: Win
Week 13: Washington Redskins at Eagles
The Redskins downgraded at quarterback and have a questionable defense. Philly should win this one, handily. Prediction: Win
Week 14: Eagles at Cowboys
I think the Cowboys have a chance to secure a top-10 pick in the 2019 draft. I do not see them even coming close to competing with the Eagles. Prediction: Win
Week 15: Eagles at Los Angeles Rams
This will be the game of the week and maybe the season. Both teams are dominant on both sides of the ball. They also both have great coaches. It will be interesting to see how the Rams new defense gels, but by Week 14, it should be dominant. Prediction: Loss
Week 16: Houston Texans at Eagles
The Texans defense is going to be really good in 2018. It will all depend on the health and progression of Deshaun Watson. With that being said, the Eagles are just a better football team than the Texans. Prediction: Win
Week 17: Eagles at Redskins
Washington is not a team the Eagles should struggle with in 2018. Philly is better at every position. Prediction: Win
Final record Prediction: 12-4
After winning the Super Bowl in 2017 and only losing three games, I predict that Philly will end the season 12-4 and make another deal run in the playoffs. Ultimately, as hard as it is to do if Wentz comes back healthy; the Eagles win the Super Bowl and repeat as champions.
