The Washington Redskins face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at University of Phoenix Stadium. Here’s info you need on where to watch.
The Washington Redskins open their 2018 season on Sunday with a trip to Phoenix to play the Arizona Cardinals. Both teams enter Sunday’s contest with new starters under center. Washington brings in Alex Smith, while the Cardinals start Sam Bradford. Arizona, of course, returns future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald and one of the best running backs in the league in David Johnson.
One of the keys to the game for the Redskins is how they’ll contain Johnson. Washington is much better on the defensive line in 2018 with Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen and Matt Ioannidis up front. If the Redskins’ defensive line can contain Johnson, they stand a good chance of winning this game.
Speaking of running backs, this will be the Washington debut for Adrian Peterson. Peterson played part of last season for Arizona and was released in the offseason. This is a big game for Peterson, and the Redskins could use a solid effort from him in order to improve a stagnant running game. Chris Thompson returns from a broken leg to join him in the backfield for the Redskins. Thompson is a major part of Washington’s passing game.

The NFL season is finally here and Week 1 offers a solid slate of games. While the Cardinals and Redskins are not on anyone’s list of Super Bowl contenders, both are compelling teams who need to start off the 2018 season with a win. Arizona head coach Steve Wilks is making his coaching debut while Washington head coach Jay Gruden is trying to avoid going 0-5 in season openers.
