The Dallas Cowboys dropped the season opener to the Carolina Panthers 16-8, but some players still stood out in the defeat. Here are three standouts from Week 1.

It wasn’t pretty as the Dallas Cowboys dropped their home opener to the Carolina Panthers 16-8. The game wasn’t really as close as the score would indicate as the Panthers were in control for most of the game.

Offensively, Dallas just never could get into a rhythm and struggled to put up sustained drives.

Defensively, they did enough to give them a chance, but again the lack of turnovers in defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli’s scheme reared its head as Dallas missed out on a couple interception opportunities.

It was still just one game and not everything was bad for the Boys. Here we will look at three players who stood out in the tough defeat.

Honorable mentions

Two players deserve to be mentioned as well but didn’t make our top three. Defensive tackles Daniel Ross and Maliek Collins both played well in this one. Ross caused a fumble near the goal line that DeMarcus Lawrence recorded and Maliek Collins had a sack.

The defensive tackle position has been an issue in the past, but both these players stepped up in Week 1 and made the Cowboys look better off at that position.
