It was exciting to finally get to see regular season football again. The Seattle Seahawks fell short of victory, losing 27-24 to the Denver Broncos.

The Seattle Seahawks looked rusty in their opening game of the season. The team lost to the Denver Broncos 27-24, but the game was very close.

Last season when the Seahawks lost, I was quick to point an accusing finger at the defense, but both the offense and defense were responsible for the loss on Sunday.

With that, however, let’s take a look at the big takeaways that we should glean from Week 1.

Earl Thomas is back!

Thomas heldout all offseason and reported just in time to play on Sunday. After all that time you might think he’d be a little rusty, but that just wasn’t the case. Thomas intercepted Case Keenum in the first quarter and returned it 25 yards in Denver territory.

Prior to his return to the team last week, Thomas had been demanding a new contract or to be traded. The Dallas Cowboys actually pursued Thomas, offering the Seahawks as much as a second round pick for the All-Pro safety. While the Seahawks maintained that they would not extend or trade Thomas, there were reasons to believe the team might trade him.

To begin with, Thomas was caught calling out to Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett during last season, saying “Come get me“. Then the Cowboys supposedly made a trade offer for Thomas during the NFL draft. But nothing came out of the potential move.

Ultimately, Thomas returned to the Seahawks and played for them. Thomas is entering his ninth season with the Seahawks who drafted him back in 2010. He is the final remaining member of the Legion of Boom secondary.
