The New York Jets walked into Ford Field looking to prove themselves, and they did with a resounding win over the Detroit Lions.

It’s Week 1, so let’s not completely overreact, but for the New York Jets the game against the Lions was a great team effort. All three phases of the team came to play, and all three scored in the 48-17 victory. It was a complete game from the Jets.

The Jets came out with guns a blazing and pulled out all the stops. This team is more capable than most expect, and they showed it in Week 1.

There’s a lot to dive into from this great start. So let’s dig in.

5. The Jets will take shots down the field

One big question about this offense was about how they’d attack opposing defenses. In recent years this offense has been stale and vanilla. Even though Sam Darnold did have a few short passes. They did take one shot down the field to Robby Anderson which resulted in a touchdown.

Darnold took what Detroit gave him, and when the time presented itself, he took the shot. There was one time where he missed a shot, but that’s okay. In the end, Bates showed he’s willing to call plays where shots will be available, but Darnold will make the right pass rather than take unnecessary shots.
