With the first full week in the books we have a better look at who is a contender and a pretender in our 2018 NFL Power Rankings for quarterbacks in Week 2.

Throughout the offseason fans are sold hope. That hope comes in all sorts of forms, but the quickest way to sell it is with a quarterback. If a team believes in their quarterback, they will sell him to a fanbase. If that fanbase believes in him, they feel like they could win games.

Oftentimes though, it’s discovered that the hope was false. Many quarterbacks start to fall apart when the games get tough and the fanbases end up turning on their player and the team.

Again, it all ties to the guy throwing the ball. To win, you don’t need someone who is elite — that theory has been disproven many times. A team does, however, need someone who can perform under pressure and deliver enough offense to make their franchise relevant.

After one week of the 2019 NFL Season, we already see some positive play, and a lot of negative play, from players who were supposed to make their teams better. It doesn’t mean they’re doomed, but those pretenders are starting to shine through — and it shows in our Week 2 edition of the 2019 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings.
