Fantasy Football 2018: Best flex players not to miss in Week 2
By Dan Salem
How much do you trust what teams did in Week 1? Your Week 2 success depends on the right answer, so we’ve pulled out the best flex players for Fantasy Football 2018 this week.
In fantasy football 2018, Week 1 is tough because we don’t know how timeshares are going to shake out. Well, in Week 2, we don’t know what from Week 1 was true moving forward. It has its own set of questions and the answers are critical. Current expert rankings echo those sentiments.
Is there really going to be a 50-50 split in the Denver backfield? Is Gio Bernard really a non-factor in Cincinnati unless Joe Mixon gets hurt? The same with Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson in Cleveland. Some teams are delegating roles, while others are putting the load on one guy. But it was only one game. We don’t know whether that will continue, but we have a good idea.
These are your best flex players not to miss in Fantasy Football Week 2. Two running backs and two wide receivers you can’t miss.
Two brothers from New York, Dan Salem and Todd Salem, debate the Fantasy Football 2018 in today’s NFL Sports Debate.
Todd Salem’s Top Flex Plays:
Here are my favorite flex plays for Week 2 based on what we saw, and what we may infer, of timeshares across the league. I have one running back and one wide receiver. You need one more of each.
Bilal Powell, RB
Last week, Isaiah Crowell out-gained Powell, but it was misleading. Crowell had one big run that accounted for 62 of his 102 yards. Powell got more carries and more targets. He was also pretty good with that workload, and I expect similar results this week against Miami. Nevertheless, Powell is ranked below his running back teammate in expert flex rankings.
Kenny Golladay, WR
Not much went right for the Lions in game one. However, an interesting share of opportunity revealed itself. Golladay led the team in yardage, snaps, and gathered 12 targets: second-most on the team and 50 percent more than Marvin Jones‘s eight. This doesn’t necessarily mean Golladay is going to be a threat over Jones every week, but it means he is right there with Jones and Golden Tate.
In Week 1, the 49ers were only able to contain one of Minnesota’s two elite receivers. The Vikings struggled to Richard Sherman‘s side of the field according to ESPN. What if the same thing happens in Week 2? Golladay could benefit tremendously, yet he’s not even being ranked as a top-30 wide receiver.
Dan Salem’s Top Flex Plays:
I’m leaning heavily on teams facing bad defenses in Week 2, because we know bad defense when we see it. My two players also happen to be on teams that did well offensively in Week 1. It’s a perfect balance.
Chris Thompson, RB
Thompson quietly put up solid numbers in Week 1, despite Adrian Peterson garnering all of the headlines. He is a bigger threat in the passing game, while still getting carries in the run game. Playing Indianapolis at home only increases his value for week 2. The Colts defense was less than formidable to begin the season, so expect the Redskins to continue looking impressive offensively. Thompson is ranked nearly 30 spots below Peterson, yet their fantasy value is almost on par this week.
Robert Woods, WR
Woods didn’t put up great fantasy numbers in Week 1, but he received the most targets of any receiver on the Rams. Those opportunities will continue at home against a weak defensive opponent. Arizona is not stopping anyone, especially the Los Angeles passing attack. Woods will get just as many targets in Week 2, but expect him to turn out more yards and find the end zone. Did I mention they are playing the Cardinals at home?
I’m not one for piling on a team when they are down, but Arizona looked really bad in week 1. Until they show me anything close to competitive football, I will be picking against them for fantasy football 2018 matchups. Who do you love matchup wise in Fantasy Football week 2?
