Fantasy Football 2018: Start or sit for Week 2
By Donnie Druin
Start
Emmanuel Sanders vs Oakland – Admittedly so, I was hesitant to jump on the Sanders hype train after his performance last season. Yet, with a somewhat competent quarterback in Case Keenum tossing the ball in Denver, Sanders seems to have found his groove again. After putting up a 10/135/1 stat line, the Broncos will play host to a Raiders defense that gave up 33 points at home last week. Although Demaryius Thomas remains the top receiver for Denver, Sanders will still put up numbers on a weekly basis.
Cooper Kupp vs Arizona – With Brandin Cooks drawing the tough Patrick Peterson match-up, all signs are a go for Cooper Kupp to lead the Rams in targets/receptions for a second straight week. It’s entirely possible for Kupp to attain a 5/50 stat line through the season, especially if Cooks and Robert Woods can keep defenses true by stretching the secondary downfield. With the Redskins primarily focused on heavily running the ball, this Arizona secondary has yet to be tested.
Sit
Randall Cobb vs Minnesota – Everything about this match-up screams for the benching of Randall Cobb. With Aaron Rodgers questionable for the tough divisional bout with the Vikings, the fantasy hopes of another solid outing Cobb resting on the arm of Deshone Kizer doesn’t sit well. Factor in Minnesota’s tough defense and Cobb’s prior history (10 targets, seven receptions, 50 yards and no touchdowns last year vs. MIN), and Week 2 is warrant enough a trip to the bench.
Larry Fitzgerald at Los Angeles (Rams) – Larry Fitzgerald may very well be on his farewell tour, but his age has yet to slow him down, and is a popular start among fantasy players for a healthy dose of points. Besides the fan love for Fitz, there’s not much to love in 2018. Sam Bradford, in one week’s time, has proven he cannot elevate this offense to new levels. The game plan against a stout Rams defense will be to feed David Johnson the football, and with the league’s best secondary across from Larry, there’s little to like in his week two matchup in LA.
