3. Another big turnover day for the Jets defense

The Jets had an amazing total of interceptions against the Lions. They finished the game with a total of five interceptions. The four interceptions thrown by Matthew Stafford were tied for the second-most he’s thrown in his career in a game.

Ryan Tannehill is an interception machine — sort of. He’s had double-digit interception totals in every single season, but so did Peyton Manning (save for one season). The thing is, in 78 games, Tannehill has 45 games where he didn’t throw an interception, and he’s thrown multiple interceptions in less that a quarter of his starts. He’s also never opened a season with consecutive multiple interception games in his career either.

Last week, despite only getting 14 total pressures (via Pro Football Focus — subscription required), they were still able to generate turnovers. The Dolphins have a solid offensive line. So it may be tough sledding for the Jets again, but they have guys who can cover well and generate turnovers.

Five of the six Jets defensive backs allowed a passer rating under 90.0, and four players had interceptions. Expect much of the same against a turnover prone quarterback. Tannehill will make mistakes, and at least two will end up in the hands of Gang Green.
