The Washington Redskins host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in Week 2 for their 2018 home opener at FedEx Field.

The Washington Redskins (1-0) open their home schedule on Sunday in Week 2 as the Indianapolis Colts (0-1) come to town. Week 1 couldn’t have gone any differently for these two teams. The Redskins went on the road to Arizona and dominated the Cardinals on both sides of the ball in a 24-6 victory. Alex Smith was efficient in his Washington debut while running back Adrian Peterson looked like, well, vintage Adrian Peterson.

Indianapolis featured the return of quarterback Andrew Luck who missed all of last season after shoulder surgery. While there was some concern about how Luck would look, he turned out just fine, completing 39 of 53 passes for 319 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Luck was sacked twice, too, and was the victim of a nasty helmet-to-helmet hit from Cincinnati defensive back Shawn Williams, who was promptly ejected from the game. Luck appeared fine after the game and the Colts hope new head coach Frank Reich is the right guy for their franchise quarterback.

Luck figures to be under heavy pressure on Sunday as he faces a talented and young Washington defensive line. Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis and Daron Payne were impressive last week and figure to give Indy’s new-look offensive line fits on Sunday afternoon. Fortunately for Luck, the offensive line held up fairly well in Week 1 so this should be a fun matchup to watch.

The Colts also feature several new starters on the defensive side of the ball. While they did allow 34 points—seven points were a defensive touchdown—in a Week 1 loss to Cincinnati, it wasn’t a bad overall effort as Indy allowed just 330 total yards, which would have been in the top 15 in the 2017 season.

This unit will have its hands full with Smith, Peterson, Chris Thompson and Jordan Reed. If the Redskins can run the football, it opens up everything for Smith and the offense. Last week, the Bengals did average over five yards per attempt.

The Redskins actually opened as four-point favorites originally, but are now favored by six points. One week is too small of a sample size to know for sure if you should take that bet or not.

Prediction

The Indianapolis Colts will be better in 2018. Getting Luck back is a great start. Reich appears to be the right guy to make sure Luck not only stays healthy but gets help from a running game, too. The offensive line will continue to improve, however, on Sunday this group will have its hands full. Washington’s defensive line is going to push the pocket and make Luck uncomfortable, forcing a couple of turnovers.

Meanwhile, Peterson and Thompson will once again have a strong day combining for almost 150 yards on the ground. Thompson will also make some big plays in the passing game. This game will stay close but the Redskins pull away in the fourth quarter.

Final Score: Washington 27, Indianapolis 17
