Dolphins vs. Jets: Preview, odds, prediction, live stream for Week 2
Fresh off of routing the Detroit Lions, the New York Jets head home to take on the Miami Dolphins in what is Sam Darnold’s first home game of his career.
The New York Jets are coming home to the loving arms of fans after the 48-17 thrashing of the Detroit Lions, and the Miami Dolphins will be waiting too to get their shots at the rookie quarterback.
Sam Darnold got his “welcome to the NFL” moment early in his career. Not only did it happen on his first pass, but the first play of his NFL career. There’s not doubt that the Dolphins were watching what followed — a cool, calm, and collected 21-year old who wasn’t fazed by the mistake at all. He proceeded to go 16-of-20 for 198 yards and two touchdowns.
When the Jets announced that Darnold would be the starter teams were probably licking their chops to get a shot at a rookie. The Dolphins need to rethink that, because he’s not only poised but smart.
Against a tough Lions secondary, Darnold did take one shot, but he also took what the defense gave him. He made good decisions most of the time. If the Dolphins want to attack Darnold they will have to quickly, because he can make the right read and process information quickly.
Quincy Enunwa showed no rust, and quickly became the favorite target. He picked up where he left off in 2016 with six receptions for 63 yards and one touchdown. Enunwa will be the mismatch to take advantage of against the Dolphins secondary, and with his ability after the catch, he might have a big game.
On the flip side, the Jets ran a lot of 2-4-5 nickel against the Lions. The Dolphins don’t have the same speed threats the Lions do, but this formation allowed for more looks where Jamal Adams was inside the box. So, that may be a common look for the Jets in 2018.

Prediction
This is a mismatch on paper. The Jets have the better quarterback and the better team, but Darnold may come out with some jitters as it is the home opener and there are more expectations given the way he played Week 1. However after those opening jitters, he will calm down, and the Jets will run away with this game.
Final Score: Dolphins 13, Jets 34
