The Los Angeles Chargers hit the road to take on the reeling Buffalo Bills. Which players should you be keeping an eye on in Week 2?
Following their Week 1 loss, the Los Angeles Chargers look to bounce back on the road this Sunday with a Week 2 showdown against the Buffalo Bills, a team that may have looked worse than any other in the season-openers.
With a few potential depth chart shakeups coming, it’s hard to know which players are the ones to keep an eye on week to week. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
Here are some players to watch this time:
Offense
Mike Williams, WR
Following an injury to Travis Benjamin that appears to keep him out against the Bills, Williams may finally get his chance to take over a starting job. And why not; he’s looked outstanding in the preseason, was the No. 7 overall selection a year ago, and just had a career high in catches and yards on opening day.
One of the biggest issues in Week 1 were drops, with at least six good passes falling in and out of the arms of Rivers’ receivers. With Williams, that wasn’t the case. According to NFL.com’s Next Gen Stats, No. 81 has a catch percentage of 83.33, which leads the team.
For what it’s worth, that’s ahead of Larry Fitzgerald, Odell Beckham Jr., and Deandre Hopkins. It may be a small sample size, but it represents what kind of player fans should expect out of Williams: tall, strong, and reliable. Look for him to get his first regular season touchdown this Sunday.
Sam Tevi, OT
Tevi’s involvement in the starting offense could have implications on the rest of the season. Following an injury to Joe Barksdale, the former sixth-round pick is slated to start for at least one game. Some scenarios that could play out based on his performance are:
- Tevi plays well, keeps the job over Barksdale. Barksdale is cut in the offseason.
- Tevi plays poorly, Barksdale gets the job back.
- Tevi plays poorly, Barksdale is still injured, Michael Schofield moves to right tackle, and Forrest Lamp gets to start at right guard.
One game will not dictate the entire season, but it could put a shift along the offensive line in motion.
