Cardinals vs. Rams: Can anyone stop the Los Angeles offense?

The Los Angeles Rams will try to claim full dominance over the NFC West as they welcome the Arizona Cardinals to town for a Week 2 matchup.

The Los Angeles Rams busted onto the scene last season in historic fashion. However, they looked like a young, inexperienced team and head coach in the playoffs. Thus, all they did was load up their talent further in the offseason and then prove in Week 1 that they are not a team to be trifled with. Now they look to teach the Arizona Cardinals the same lesson in Week 2.

Todd Gurley was the the obvious catalyst for the Rams offense in their dismantling of the Raiders last week, as expected. However, Jared Goff and Brandin Cooks were doing just fine in the passing attack as well. The offense was clicking on all cylinders, but so too was the new-look defense for Los Angeles.

In the offseason, LA went out and made huge moves to improve on that side of the ball. They traded for stud cornerbacks in Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, then went out and also signed defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. With the likes of Lamarcus Joyner and Aaron Donald already in tow, this unit seemed unstoppable, and they looked it against Oakland.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, they don’t appear to be at this level. Despite signing Sam Bradford this offseason to help bring rookie Josh Rosen along, they’ve done very little with the veteran at the helm. And, though they have a defense with talented pieces like Chandler Jones and Patrick Peterson, they just seem to overall be lacking on both sides of the ball.

Given what we saw in Week 1, it shouldn’t be surprising that the Rams are heavily favored at home. They are almost two-touchdown favorites over the Cardinals, so the oddsmakers are expecting a blowout in favor of the home team in this one, it would seem.

Prediction

When you get down to it, the Rams offense might have too much firepower to be contained by any team in the league. Given that with what the Cardinals showed last week, that means a lot of scoring for LA. On top of that, when you look at what the Los Angeles defense is capable of and what Arizona’s offense again showed last week, this should indeed be a blowout.

Final Score: Arizona 13, Los Angeles 34
