There were upsets, ties and plenty of drama in Week 2 of the 2018 NFL season, but which teams and players walked away winners, or worse, losers?

There were plenty of big games taking place in NFL Week 2 on Sunday. Perhaps one of the biggest was the matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings, a huge clash between potential Super Bowl contenders. However, we didn’t find out who has the edge right now between the two since that game ended in a tie.

Of course, plenty of other things transpired in Week 2 of the 2018 season. There were upsets, there was heartbreak and there was a lot more in between. And with that, some teams and players came out looking better, while others walked away looking worse.

Having said that, let’s take a look at the winners and losers from Sunday.

Winner: Patrick Mahomes

Any player can make anything happen for one week, so I tried to reserve my excitement about Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes last week as he dominated. After Week 2, however, there’s no denying him. Mahomes went out and torched the Steelers to the tune of six passing touchdowns. He’s absolutely cool, calm and electric under center and it’s abundantly clear that Kansas City both made the right choice and is in good hands moving forward.

Winner: Atlanta Falcons

I’ll admit right out of the gate that I was thinking about the demise of the Atlanta Falcons coming into Week 2. With Devonta Freeman missing from the offense in addition to Keanu Neal and Deion Jones being out for the defense, I thought the Carolina Panthers would roll to an NFC South victory. I missed the mark.

While Matt Ryan and the Falcons didn’t look perfect in Week 2, they went out and got the job done. Heck, they even found a way to score in the red zone on Sunday afternoon, something that’s often lost on Steve Sarkisian. Anyone thinking about doom for this team with the injuries, though, has to feel much more optimistic after this performance.

Losers: Kickers

Daniel Carson. Zane Gonzalez. Mason Crosby. What do these three kickers have in common? They all missed field goals that would’ve ultimately won their teams the game. Perhaps Green Bay Packers kicker, Crosby, has the most defensible excuse after being iced before his game-winning attempt, but even still, it was a bad day to be a kicker. In fact, it wouldn’t be a shock at all if Carson and Gonzalez didn’t leave the Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns, respectively, looking for new guys to fill the spot.
