New England Patriots (1-1) at Detroit Lions (0-2)

Sunday, September 23, 8:20 PM ET

Right now, the New England Patriots and Detroit Lions are on very different sides of the spectrum. Even after a Week 2 loss, Bill Belichick and Co. are legitimate contenders. Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions are simply hoping to avoid a completely lost season.

Unfortunately, the Lions haven’t gotten off to a good start when it comes to achieving that goal. They’ve dropped their first two games, getting blown out by the Jets before keeping things close but ultimately falling to the 49ers. It’s been an ugly start for Matthew Stafford and this restructured Lions team.

It’s not going to get any better against the Patriots. Even with home-field advantage, the Lions will struggle to keep up with Tom Brady on the scoreboard. Although it would seem that Matt Patricia’s seen enough of New England’s offense to know how to beat it, I’m sure Belichick will have more than a few tricks up his sleeve.

Starting 0-3 is far from ideal. Assuming that’s the case, the Lions could soon enter panic mode will the Patriots try to keep pace in the top-heavy AFC.

Prediction: Patriots win 22-16
