23. San Francisco 49ers (28)

In a way, the 49ers should have felt a little relieved to lose that first game opening weekend since it meant Jimmy Garoppolo would no longer be forced to deal with the pressure of being undefeated in his career, although it would have been great to see last a little longer. Still, when looking at all of the pressure Garoppolo was already facing after signing that hefty contract in the offseason, the San Francisco star would love to avoid any unnecessary pressure possible.

At least during Sunday’s game against the Lions, Garoppolo was able to help the 49ers return to their winning ways after holding on for the 30-27 victory. For the most part, Garoppolo was the key factor for San Francisco on offense after tossing two touchdowns while completing 18 of 26 passes for 206 yards, but also Matt Brieda deserves just as much credit for stepping up to steal the show.

Finishing with 138 rushing yards on 11 carries to go along with a 66-yard score makes the 49ers feel much better about their situation at running back. With more performances like this, San Francisco will be have a better shot at living up to the offseason hype to become a playoff contender in the NFC.
