2018 NFL Power Rankings: Risk on Mahomes paying off for Chiefs
By Dan Parzych
19. Miami Dolphins (23)
Are the Dolphins that ended up being a surprise playoff contender in the AFC two years ago officially back after improving to 2-0 following Sunday’s win over the Jets? While Miami still has a long way to go when it comes to showing they have what it takes to continue playing at this level throughout the regular season, just the fact that Ryan Tannehill is healthy, and winning games is a huge accomplishment for Miami as a team.
Keep in mind that it was only a few months ago in which there were questions surrounding the Dolphins when it came to whether it was worth giving Tannehill another chance to prove himself worthy of the starting job. Watching Tannehill (17 of 23 for 168 yards with two touchdowns) against a Jets’ defense coming off a strong Week 1 performance was a huge accomplishment for the former first-round pick, but now comes the pressure of continuing this success moving forward.
By keeping Miami on top of the AFC standings, the team will have no choice other than to keep Tannehill around beyond the 2018 season instead of starting from scratch. But also, that’s always easier said than done since staying healthy has been one of the major issues surrounding Tannehill over the last two seasons.
