2018 NFL Power Rankings: Risk on Mahomes paying off for Chiefs
By Dan Parzych
18. Tennessee Titans (22)
When looking at all of the uncertainty surrounding the Titans as a result of Marcus Mariota’s status being up in the air, there weren’t many football fans expecting this team to have that much of a chance when taking on Houston. Turns out, Tennessee was able to keep Houston in check for the most part thanks to stellar play by the defense along with the offense doing just enough to get by.
Blaine Gabbert’s numbers (13 of 20 for 117 yards with a touchdown) didn’t stand out like some of the other quarterbacks from Week 2, but give the veteran some credit for leading the offense enough to help the Titans earn their first win of 2018. Throughout the offseason, Tennessee was viewed as one of the biggest winners thanks to a successful free agency and draft, but their first game could only be described as a disaster.
Only time will tell when it comes to what to expect from Mariota with his injury, but hopefully Tennessee can figure out a way to earn wins if he ends up being out longer than expected. On another note, when is Derrick Henry (56 rushing yards on 18 carries) going to begin playing at the high level the Titans need him on?
