2018 NFL Power Rankings: Risk on Mahomes paying off for Chiefs
By Dan Parzych
27. Detroit Lions (15 – Before MNF)
A week after finishing with one of the worst performances of his career, Matthew Stafford wanted nothing more than to help the Detroit Lions avoid a 0-2 start with a much better outing in Week 2 when facing the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, Stafford and the Lions ended up digging themselves too deep of a hole, and once again seem to have more questions than answers heading into next weekend.
Not even Stafford’s three-touchdown day was good enough to help Detroit escape San Francisco with a win, as the team missed out on a few key opportunities towards the end of the same to potentially send the contest into overtime. And if beginning the year with a 0-2 record wasn’t already frustrating enough, one can only imagine the amount of criticism Matt Patricia is going to see over the next few days.
The former defensive coordinator took quite the heat for the way his team looked in the opener during a game played in front of a national audience. Instead of being in great position with a 2-0 start, the Lions will turn to Week 3 for that first win of 2018 while hoping to end the month of September on a positive note.
