Philadelphia Eagles: 3 Big takeaways from loss vs. Buccaneers in Week 2
By Carl Naimoli
1. This Team is in Need of a Jolt
For two consecutive weeks, the Eagles have looked sloppy and unprepared, and at times they have looked unmotivated. The talent on the field alone is not enough for them to win in the NFL. They need to fight and get the chip back on their shoulder they had in 2017. When a team has five first-quarter penalties and a turnover, that says that they didn’t come ready to play. Of course the injuries hurt them, but it was really their own play that hurt them the most.
Quarterback Nick Foles actually looked good for most of this game. He wasn’t slinging the ball like his counterpart, Fitzpatrick, but he really did enough for the Eagles to win this game. But maybe that is what the Eagles are missing. Not just a quarterback who does a good enough job to win, but a signal-caller who can put the team on his back and lead the team to victory.
If that’s the case, the Eagles fans are getting their wish with the return of Carson Wentz in Week 3 against the Colts. Even if Wentz doesn’t play to the best of his abilities, maybe he can, at least, give this Eagles team a boost of energy that they didn’t appear to have in Week 2 against Tampa.
Either way, the Eagles are going to need a jumpstart, whether it comes from Wentz or anyone else on the team. If things don’t start to look different soon, then the Eagles might be in for a tougher season than many expected.
