Khalil Mack again leads a stifling Chicago Bears defense

Khalil Mack had an all-time game last week against the Packers. More incredible, he did it in just a half. Well, he did the same thing again against Seattle. He led a Bears defensive effort that had five sacks in the first half. They continued their dominance into the third quarter by allowing just one yard.

The defense fed off Mack’s effort and enthusiasm. Additionally, he demands a double team, thus freeing up the other defenders. The Bears’ front line swarmed to the ball and often found themselves in the Seattle backfield.

Defensive coordinator moved Mack around. Mack started on the left side of the field, then moved to the right side. He terrorized just about every Seahawks offensive lineman. He finished with 4.5 tackles, a sack, and another forced fumble.

Mack and the front seven’s performance is covering up for the secondary’s inefficiency. Again, the corners got burned. Prince Amukamara committed a costly penalty on third down that extended a fourth-quarter drive. Two plays later, Kyle Fuller got beat on a throw to Tyler Lockett. Fuller had no idea the ball was coming in and tried to just not get called for pass interference.

So far, Mack has been worth everything the Bears spent to get him. He is the leader of the defense and the others fall in line and play just as hard as he does. In the end, even the struggling cornerbacks did their part — Amukamara had a 49-yard pick-six to seal the victory.
