Germain Ifedi is in over his head

Germain Ifedi has been torn apart in both weeks this season. While he was never outstanding, there was hope he’d develop into a solid starter. But that hasn’t happened. Instead he’s become a liability on an already bad offensive line.

Ifedi was tasked with stopping Von Miller last week and Khalil Mack in Week 2. Miller blew out Ifedi for three sacks and Mack got to Wilson just once but smacked the ball away from Wilson when he did. I’d like to point out that things won’t be getting any easier for Ifedi.

He’ll be facing Demarcus Lawrence next week when the Seahawks play the Dallas Cowboys. Lawrence finished tied for second in sacks last year with 14.5, making him one of the better pass rushers in the league. He might eat Ifedi alive, especially if the Seahawks don’t give their right tackle some help.

Wilson is used to scrambling around and extending plays. It’s his trademark the same way the Aaron Rodgers has his Hail Mary throws. Wilson hasn’t been scrambling to extend plays this season, he’s been scrambling to survive. The offensive line is the main problem and Ifedi is the leading concern. Either the Seahawks need to put a tight end or running back on his side to help him block or they seriously need to start considering ways to replace him.

The third-year right tackle has one more year left on his rookie deal. If he continues to play the way he has been, he will be looking for a new home after the 2019 season.
