The Los Angeles Rams are 2-0 to start the year with a stout defense and high-scoring offense. They’ve been distributing stats and that’s been a major key.

Heading into the 2018 season, the Los Angeles Rams were expected to be one of the top teams in the NFL. Through two weeks that’s proven true as they’re currently undefeated at 2-0. They might not be winning how you expect though. Despite a star-studded roster and lopsided scores, the Rams haven’t had any “hero ball” — that’s to say, no one person has been the lone dominant man.

Through two weeks, the Rams have been distributing well on offense. Brandin Cooks leads the team with 12 receptions while Robert Woods has 11. Cooper Kupp isn’t far behind either with nine catches this year. Meanwhile, Todd Gurley has 39 carries to go along with six catches of his own.

The Rams ability to distribute evenly is shown in one simple stat. Quarterback Jared Goff has three touchdown passes, and they’re all to different players (Kupp, Gurley and tight end Tyler Higbee).

The defensive side of this is a little bit tricky. No one on the defe, nse has more than one interception (four total) or one sack (two total). Unlike on offense this isn’t as much about distribution though.

An offense usually needs to switch things up. If they keep going to one player, defenses will figure you out quick. On defense though, players can rack up stats without that being much of a problem. Sure, offenses can game plan for you, but that’s just opening up spots for others. Any defender can change a game on any play, unlike on offense when there’s usually designed targets.

So the stats being spread out for Los Angeles doesn’t mean the same thing as the offense. This shows depth. The Rams haven’t had any one defensive player put up big stats for them yet. Aaron Donald doesn’t have a sack, nor does Ndamukong Suh — and Aqib Talib doesn’t have an interception yet.

Despite all of that, the defense has been great. That’s simply because they have fantastic depth. The Rams don’t need one player to do everything because all 11 men on the field are dangerous. In the NFL stats go a long way. The Los Angeles Rams are set to make a run at the Super Bowl though. And through two games, stats aren’t the story.
