Miami Dolphins: 4 Reasons behind 2-0 start to season
Rush Defense
In the most shocking turn of events for me this season, the Ndamukong Suh-less Dolphins have had an outstanding rush defense. They are currently ranked eighth-best in the league allowing just 158 yards through two games on 3.3 yards per carry. This couldn’t be more surprising.
I pounded the table all summer that Dolphins will have an elite secondary this year. I said they would emerge as one of the league’s best. Nevertheless, I also insisted that this rushing defense would be among the league’s worst. They were bad last year, lost one of the league’s best run-stoppers and looked pitiful in the preseason. It seemed obvious.
I’m not sure what has happened, but Dolphins fans have to be thrilled. Especially when you consider their Week 1 opponent. Their two-headed monster is one of the most versatile in the entire league. Derrick Henry is a monstrous power back and Dion Lewis is the kind of undersized shifty back that has given Dolphins’ fans nightmares for years.
The Jets’ running backs looked significantly worse against us as well compared to their Week 1 massacre of the Lions. If this group can continue to stop the run like this, the Dolphins will be a playoff team. I still want to see it continue before I buy in, but this should be their because weakness. If it’s a strength, look out.
