Seattle Seahawks: 3 Standouts from Week 2 vs. Bears
By Samuel Teets
Mychal Kendricks
Legal issues aside, Kendricks showed up on short notice for the Seahawks and managed to produce a sack, three tackles, and one pass defensed. He was with the team for less than a week when he suited up to play the Bears.
While he was impressive on the field, the reason why he was available for the Seahawks to pick up wasn’t. Kendricks is facing significant jail time because he was incorporated in an insider trading scheme.
His pending departure from the NFL is what led the Cleveland Browns to cut Kendricks back before the season began. Prior to signing with the Browns in the offseason, Kendricks was a part of the Super Bowl winning Philadelphia Eagles, the team that drafted him back in 2012.
We can’t be sure how long Kendricks will be around to contribute to the Seahawks. He was officially suspended by the NFL but is being allowed to play while he’s awaiting his appeal, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. But for now Kendricks is a Seattle Seahawk.
The team actually really needs his help right now considering that Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright have been dealing with injuries. Wright had his knee scoped during the Preseason and is still recovering. There’s a chance he’ll play in Week 3, but there are no guarantees. In this case, having a veteran playmaker like Kendricks around is ideal. The team will be thankful for whatever production he can give them this season.
