The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Washington Redskins 21-9 in Week 2. In a bad overall day for the Redskins, here are three players who stood out.

The Washington Redskins missed a prime opportunity to open the season 2-0 on Sunday, losing their home opener to the Indianapolis Colts 21-9. The Colts took the game’s opening drive 75 yards capped off by an Andrew Luck touchdown pass and never looked back.

Washington couldn’t run the football, wide receiver Jamison Crowder led the team with 29 yards on two attempts, and 25 of those yards came on Washington’s opening play with Crowder running a jet sweep. That was essentially it for the creative portion of the Redskin offense on Sunday.

Adrian Peterson carried the ball 11 times for 20 yards. The offensive line gave Peterson nowhere to run and his one big run of the day, a 14-yarder in the second half, came on an outstanding individual effort.

Quarterback Alex Smith wasn’t too much better. Sure, his final stats will look decent enough and Smith made some good throws and wasn’t helped by his receivers on at least three passes that traveled downfield. However, late in the game with the score still close, Smith showed no sense of urgency, instead, continuing to dump the ball short to Chris Thompson and Jordan Reed.

Defensively, the Redskins did some good things. Luck was held under 200 yards and had two interceptions. Washington struggled at times to stop the run, a concern since so much was done to improve that unit in the offseason. Indianapolis blocked the Redskins’ front well, by using lots of movement and pulling and it worked.

In an ugly day, who were the Redskins top performers? Here are three players who stood out in Sunday’s Week 2 loss.
