Fantasy Football 2018: Start or sit for Week 3
By Donnie Druin
Start
DeSean Jackson vs. Pittsburgh – In the latter part of his career, DeSean Jackson has turned himself into the walking, talking proof of “boom or bust” potential on a week to week basis. Through two weeks, Jackson has hit nothing but “boom” and it truly feels like he may never look back. Jackson’s home run-hitting speed has seen the veteran reel in a mere nine catches for 275 yards and three scores.
Jackson faces a Pittsburgh secondary in Week 3 that just can’t figure things out, and certainly don’t have the speed anywhere in the secondary to go stride-for-stride. Ryan Fitzpatrick figures to have another good performance, and should find his go-to guy on a few deep balls along the way.
Kenny Golladay vs. New England – The Golladay Inn Express has lived up to expectations thus far, as Detroit is a safe haven for the passing attack portion of fantasy football. Golladay sits alongside Golden Tate and Marvin Jones in the wide receiving corps, yet Golladay has steadily built a rapport with Matthew Stafford and can now be considered weapon No. 2 behind Tate.
With the potential a Brady/Stafford game could bring, it’s not far-fetched to believe Golladay could see another stat-line nearing seven catches for 90 yards at the minimum. Golladay deserves the start simply due to matchups and volume.
Sit
Tyler Lockett vs. Dallas – Lockett will be facing a Dallas secondary that surrendered a mere four receptions for 51 yards to one of the league’s best in Odell Beckham Jr. just last week. Week 3 will see a Dallas defense matched up with a worse offensive line and their best receiver sidelined for a few more weeks.
Lockett has benefited from scores in both weeks of the 2018 season, but offers little value outside of the end zone. This Seahawks offense isn’t expected to move the chains much on Sunday, and without Lockett hitting paydirt, a gloomy fantasy day should be expected as Russell Wilson scrambles to save himself and the 12s season.
Demaryius Thomas at Baltimore – After seeing A.J. Green completely shred the Ravens secondary, many are hoping Demaryius Thomas can somewhat duplicate Green’s success in Week 3. I’m not buying it. The Ravens still present themselves as one of the better units in the league, and I’m expecting Case Keenum to favor Emmanuel Sanders over Thomas on Sunday.
Thomas was targeted heavily last week (11 to be precise), but was only able to reel in five catches for 18 yards against a less-talented Raiders defense. After receiving a spanking on national television, it’s wise to think Baltimore will look to rebound in a big way defensively, spelling trouble for Keenum and Thomas.
