The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated New England in Week 2, but lost left tackle Cam Robinson for the 2018 season in the process.

Cam Robinson suffered a season ending knee injury early in Week 3 against the New England Patriots. Although the Jacksonville Jaguars won the game, replacing Robinson will be tough. Josh Wells is the first man up in replacing him.

The late, great Vince Lombardi once commented about the nature of the game of football. Lombardi said that “Football is not a contact sport, it’s a collision sport – dancing is a contact sport.”

Robinson was placed on the injured reserve list earlier this week. Rashad Greene Sr. was re-signed to fill the empty roster slot. Lately, before 2017, finding a left tackle has been tough. Remember the Jaguars drafted Luke Joeckel to be the franchise cornerstone left tackle. His play did not justify being selected as the second-overall selection in 2013. Robinson was taken in the second round in 2017.

Robinson brought a fiery attitude to the Jaguars. He and Andrew Norwell were expected to anchor Blake Bortles’ blind side for the next three seasons or more. It’s amazing how things can change in a moments notice.

Robinson went down in the first quarter. Wells came in and finished the game at left tackle. The Jaguars indicate that Wells will be the starter going forward. Wells is an imposing presence on the line. He stands 6-6, 306 pounds. The James Madison University product was a quarterback in high school, according to JMUSports.com.

He moved from tight end to the defensive line because of injuries to the defense after redshirting his freshman season. Wells moved to the offensive line in his redshirt sophomore season. He is very versatile as an athlete and should fill in admirably.

Injuries are a real possibility in today’s NFL. The speed of the game and size of the players contribute to player getting hurt. Some times, they just happen due to things beyond the players control.

Expect bumps and bruises to occur during the heat of the battle. Players recover from knee injuries better than they did 25 years ago. Robinson will be back, but until then, Wells is protecting Bortles’ blind side.
