New York Jets: Being underdogs should motivate Gang Green
The New York Jets are saying the right things, but inside they should use this slight as motivations to defeat the Cleveland Browns tonight.
Thursday night’s game is at NewEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, OH. There’s only one question though: How can the Cleveland Browns be favored to win any games this season? Regardless of the answer to that, the New York Jets still find themselves three-point underdogs to the Browns in Week 3. That should cause a double-take.
Typically, oddsmakers gets it right when it comes to the spread, which is why there are so many sportsbooks out there. They make money hand over fist. That said, it’s the Browns!
Books have gotten it wrong with the Brown a lot lately. Even though picking the Browns this season has been a winning proposition (2-0 ATS), in the last 50 game, they’ve had a 16-34 record against the spread, whether favored or underdogs. That’s not what should motivate the Jets though.
What should motivate the Jets is this: 6-43-1. That’s the Browns actual record in their last 50 games and, from most oddsmakers the Jets are getting the Rodney Dangerfield treatment in Week 3.
The Jets are going to say the right things, like what Brandon Copeland told ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
"“It doesn’t bother us,” he continued. “It’s something that won’t keep me up at night.”"
Here’s what former Browns now Jets wide receiver Terrelle Pryor said, also per Cimini:
"“It means nothing to Cleveland; it means nothing to the Jets. Paper is paper. There are so many teams that are underdogs and they’re coming out and beating guys. It really doesn’t matter.”"
Sure, the Jets are saying the right things, but they should feel slighted. They’re getting no respect from anyone against a team that has only won four games in the last 50.
Jets players can say whatever they want, but this is perfect bulletin board material. It’s “the world vs. us” mentality. Sometimes you need to find extra motivation in professional sports, and this is just that, the perfect way to get the team fired up.
