New York Jets: 3 Big takeaways from loss vs. Browns in Week 3
1. Two people have to go
Robbie Anderson’s off field transgressions are well-documented. He’s gotten in hot water in each of the last two offseasons, even though most of the charges that were filed against him this offseason were dropped, and we will never truly know what happened between him and the officer.
Now, the transgression have leaked on to the field, and it’s time to let him go. Yes, he had a spectacular season last year, but that was without Enunwa. So he and the Jets had no choice. With more talented players around him, his role has been limited due to a lack of talent as an all-around receiver.
He’s had a crucial fumble in each of the last two game that negated a first down. Those were killer turnovers, and now his production doesn’t match what he gave them in 2017. So he’s got to go if they can find a suitable replacement.
The other that has to go is defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers. He completely abandoned a game plan that worked on a veteran, and let a rookie dictate the game plan rather than forcing the hand of the rookie. He took the foot off the gas pedal when it came to the pressure he was dialing up as soon as Baker Mayfield entered the game.
What should happen is that Todd Bowles does what Kyle Shanahan and Bill O’Brien do in San Francisco and Houston, respectively. Shanahan and O’Brien are both head coaches for their respective franchises, but they also serve as the offensive coordinators. Bowles should do the same with the Jets and take over as the team’s defensive coordinator.
