Two of the brightest young quarterbacks in the game meet as the Kansas City Chiefs host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Sep. 23 in Week 3 of the 2018 NFL Season

Entering this season, many eyes were on the young quarterbacks starting the season for their new clubs. Two that were brought up were the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.

For San Francisco, they were starting the year for the first time with Jimmy Garoppolo — who did start five games in 2017 after being acquired via trade at the deadline. Garoppolo has them off to a 1-1 start but is looking for more against another young star.

That would be Patrick Mahomes, who got a start in a meaningless Week 17 games last season and is off to one of the hottest starts this season. Not only does he have his Chiefs at 2-0, but Mahomes is fresh off a six-touchdown game and has 10 on the season with no interceptions.

It’s one of the best starts ever for a guy new under center and it’s going to be hard to keep pace with him for the 49ers — who are on the right track but still building their young team.

Here’s all the info you need to catch the inter-conference match.

Prediction

Mahomes is taking over a team that went to the playoffs while he was on the bench. The talent around him is so much greater than what Garoppolo has — they were 1-10 without him and 5-0 with him in 2017. San Francisco is trending upward, but Kansas City is the better team. Plus, it’s hard to envision this secondary slowing Mahomes down.

Final Score: San Francisco 21, Kansas City 35
