2019 NFL Mock Draft: Browns, Cowboys, Packers add weapons
17. Oakland Raiders (via Bears): Montez Sweat, EDGE, Mississippi State
In a brutally ironic twist — but not really because Gruden — the Raiders use the pick they acquired from the Chicago Bears in the Khalil Mack trade to take an edge rusher. After all, Gruden said it’s hard to find good pass rushers, especially after you trade away the best one in the league. However, they land a good player here in Montez Sweat. The Mississippi State product is a beast off the edge with great burst and the potential to make a Day 1 impact.
18. Baltimore Ravens: Deebo Samuel, WR, South Carolina
What separates South Carolina’s Deebo Samuel from the rest of the 2019 wide receiver class is largely that he isn’t a huge body/prototypical No. 1 type. However, he’s not diminutive by any stretch and has athleticism and perhaps the best route-running of any player in the class. Put simply, he gets open and makes quarterback’s lives easier, something that the Baltimore Ravens desperately need to add to their offense.
19. Los Angeles Chargers: Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson
Without Joey Bosa, the Los Angeles Chargers defense has certainly had their struggles early in the 2018 season. However, a healthy Chargers defense possesses a great deal of talent, save for up front where they are quite pedestrian. Christian Wilkins can give them a fire at that position. Though his upside is somewhat limited, he’s a bull up front with great technique and power. Couple that with his high motor and he’s a nice mid-round add for the Bolts defense.
20. Denver Broncos: Rashan Gary, DL, Michigan
Put simply, the Denver Broncos defense isn’t what it once was. That’s not to say they’re without talent, but they do have some areas where they are lacking true depth and upside, something that wasn’t the case when they were winning Super Bowl 50. Thus, they take Rashan Gary out of Michigan, an extremely flexible player that can play multiple positions up front. He’s a freak athlete for his size and has a great motor. If he can hone his technique as a rusher, he can be dominant in the NFL.
