Packers vs. Redskins: Who bounces back after disappointment last week?
The Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins meet in Week 3 after each had disappointing results in Week 2. Which team will bounce back?
The Washington Redskins look to bounce back from an embarrassing Week 2 performance this week when the Green Bay Packers come to town. It won’t be easy. The Packers (1-0-1) head to FedEx Field on Sunday afternoon an angry bunch after last week’s disappointing tie at home with the Minnesota Vikings.
The Redskins, meanwhile, had a much different showing than Green Bay. In their home opener, the Redskins looked bored, listless, overmatched, overwhelmed and downright awful in a 21-9 loss to the Colts. Quarterback Alex Smith’s final stat line looked solid despite not throwing a touchdown pass, but those numbers are a bit deceiving. Smith rarely challenged Indianapolis down the field and when he did, the receivers couldn’t catch the football.
Washington couldn’t run the football either. Adrian Peterson carried the football 11 times for 20 yards and receiver Jamison Crowder led the Redskins in rushing with 29 yards. The biggest issue was the offensive line. Brandon Scherff, Shawn Lauvao, Morgan Moses and Trent Williams were all banged up during the game and the unit seemingly struggled to handle Indianapolis’ stunts and twists up front.
The Packers led for much of their game against the Vikings; however, Minnesota led a furious fourth-quarter comeback to tie the game and force overtime. It wasn’t without controversy as Minnesota quarterback and former Redskin, Kirk Cousins, was picked off late but the call was reversed when Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews hit Cousins late. It appeared to be a questionable call at the time.
These two teams last met in 2016 on Sunday Night Football in Washington, when the Redskins — led by Cousins — won 42-24 in what felt like a breakout game for Cousins and the Redskins’ offense at the time. Overall, Green Bay leads the all-time series 20-15-1.

Prediction
Is Aaron Rodgers still hurt? Well, it sounds like he may still be battling an injury, however, it’s nothing to keep him off the field. That should be scary for the Redskins. Rodgers is fired up to put last week’s loss behind him and Green Bay will likely to struggle to run against Washington, meaning plenty of passing attempts.
Can Smith get the Redskins going? The key for Washington is to put pressure on Rodgers and get some kind of running game going or it could be another long day.
Final Score: Green Bay 27, Washington 17
