Trubisky still needs a lot of improvement

Okay, so Mitch Trubisky has taken a lot of heat in the first two games. He’s had trouble with the deep ball and trouble getting a handle of this new offense. His defenders say it’s still early and he’s still learning. His detractors look at Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield and see how quickly they’ve had success.

Yes, I agree it’s still early. Mayfield had many more snaps in college, as did Mahomes. Also, Mahomes sat the entire 2017 (except for the final game) and learned Nagy’s system without the pressure of playing. What I saw with Trubisky in Week 3 was something that had nothing to do with the system.

Trusbiksy got lazy with the ball. He carried the ball loose when it was poked away. Later on, he nonchalantly tried to throw the ball over the defender. The defender deflected the pass and it landed on the hands of another Cardinals defender.

Trubisky does not have a good enough handle of this offense for him to take it easy. He still has happy feet, still cannot complete deep passes accurately, and still has problems making decisions. He cannot afford to take it easy.

Overall, Trubisky went 24-for-35 for 220 yards. However, he didn’t have a touchdown and had that horrible interception. The defense bailed him out in Arizona. He needs to pick it up. Yes, it’s still early, but after next week a quarter of the season will have been played. We need to see more from Trubisky or this could be a “woulda, coulda” season.
