Detroit Lions: 3 Standouts from Week 3 vs. Patriots
The Detroit Lions climbed out of a perceived basement dwelling in the NFL to handle the Patriots in Week 3, and these were the men who stole the show.
It’s not far-fetched to say that everyone was counting the Detroit Lions out prior to kickoff against the New England Patriots on Sunday night. After starting the first two weeks of the 2018 season without a win in the first year under new head coach Matt Patricia, all signs seem to point towards the Lions being one of the five worst teams in the league this season. At least, they were all pointing that way until they weren’t.
In a Week 3 that was filled to the brim with big upsets that virtually nobody saw coming, the Lions added another to the list. They went out in the first half and absolutely dominated the Patriots in a way that was completely unforeseen. They put up the first 13 points of the game before New England scored a field goal heading into the half. Even still, the Lions were firmly in control.
That control looked like it might slip away early in the second half, however. When Matthew Stafford opened up the third quarter by throwing an interception on Detroit’s first drive, every Lions fan had to be thinking that it was all about to come crumbling down. That was exacerbated surely by Tom Brady scoring on the ensuing drive. However, the Lions tightened up and took control of the game back, riding it to a win.
Sunday night was a huge and necessary win for the Lions, who avoided starting the season winless by grabbing the victory over the Patriots. There’s a lot to take away from this game. However, we’re going to look at the three Detroit Lions that stood out the most in the big win.
