The Dallas Cowboys make a huge pick and the Oakland Raiders find their pass rushers in this first round 2019 NFL Mock Draft

Each year the draft is there to give teams a chance to get better, to sell some hope. That’s why, even though it’s still early, we are already looking ahead to the future with our 2019 NFL Mock Draft.

For some franchises, the hope for being a competitive team dies pretty early. It’s not an easy reality to face, and fans often see it well before general managers, coaches, and team owners do — as they desperately cling to hope that another tweak here or there could fix things.

But alas, there is no fixing it. We saw this play out last season with the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and New York Jets. They all thought they could make a little change to get better.

The Browns tried to get a quarterback. They made a move at the deadline for A.J. McCarron, which was famously botched. Fans were thrilled that a second-round pick wasn’t wasted on McCarron who was signed by Buffalo in the offseason and dealt to the Raiders after the preseason.

As for the Giants and Jets, they hoped some quarterback change could help. The Giants benched Eli Manning for Geno Smith (no, really Geno Smith) and the Jets hoped Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg could be the future.

In the end, these three teams started out the 2018 NFL Draft with the top three picks and they hope those selections changed their fortune.

With all that being said, we know several teams need to look ahead and we will do that for them here with our first-round mock of the 2019 NFL Draft. As always, we base the order of this draft on the most recent power rankings on NFL Spin Zone, which can be found here.

And with that, we are off to Arizona for Pick No. 1.
