22. Green Bay Packers: Montez Sweat, EDGE, Mississippi State

There have whispers that the Green Bay Packers plan to move on from Clay Matthews in the offseason. It’s another blow for Matthews to have to hear that considering he’s been penalized every time he hits a quarterback this season.

While those penalties have been ridiculous, the fact is the Packers defense has been suspect at best. They’re not generating much of a pass rush and they’re the reason that they’ve started out the 2018 season slowly — although the injury to Aaron Rodgers hasn’t helped, he’s still done enough for them to win.

Nick Perry is the other edge rusher for the Pack and he’s got the big contract. What he doesn’t have is a full16 game season on his resume and consistency has never been his friend.

In an effort to start getting some young talent on the defensive side of the ball, they go for edge rusher Montez Sweat out of Mississippi State. He’s got a great burst off the edge and can help replace Matthews — if the rumors are indeed true — and could help them move on from Perry if he continues to underperform on his contract.

The 6-6, 245-pound edge rusher had 10.5 sacks in 2017 and another five in his first four games this season.
