25. Washington Redskins: Deandre Baker, CB, Georgia

This season has been fun for fans of the Washington Redskins. It’s also been fun for fans of mid-2000 football because we’ve seen Adrian Peterson step into a time machine and show us flashes of his old play that used to dominate the NFL.

Signing Peterson seemed like a desperation move after the Redskins lost rookie Derrius Guice, and maybe it was. Still, it looks smart now as he and Alex Smith have the offense playing smart and safe football. Really, it’s the style of offense Smith has been playing for years and it seemed to be in doubt following the Guice injury.

As for the defense, they can stand to make some upgrades. Right now, their top corner is Josh Norman, who is still playing well for them, but they could use some help opposite him. That’s what leads them to add Deandre Baker out of Georgia in this mock. Baker is one of the top corners and has been mocked higher in the past, but lasts longer than normal here.

That’s perfectly fine by Washington as they’re able to add another potential shutdown player along with Norman. Baker also allows a smooth transition with the 30-year old vet when the time comes that Norman can’t keep up with the speedy receivers like he once did. They can still keep the savvy vet while allowing Baker to take on the more physically talented players once he gets some seasoning.
