2019 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys turn the page, Raiders find pass rushers
By Randy Gurzi
6. Dallas Cowboys: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
One of the hardest things to do is change who you are. And for the current staff with the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott to work, each would have to find some way to change what they do.
Jason Garrett and Scott Linehan have received a lot of criticism lately, as has Prescott. Much of it is deserved. However, Garrett and Linehan aren’t the types of coaches who have ever really worked with a mobile quarterback, and their gameplan shows as much.
As for Prescott, he’s not a signal-caller that normally stands in the pocket and makes his reads. So they’ve been trying to reach a happy medium and the result has gotten ugly in recent weeks.
Here we decide to get a passer who fits more of what the staff wants — and for those of you wanting a new staff to work with Prescott, that just hasn’t seemed to be Jerry Jones desired goal. He refuses to put any blame on Garrett and supports him wholeheartedly, meaning he may be there forever.
At least they could improve with Justin Herbert under center. The Oregon product is a much more traditional passer at 6-6 and 234 pounds. He has tremendous upside, but the decision making is suspect at times which has led to some bad picks. Still, there’s plenty to like and he could be just what this franchise needs to get the offense going before their defense turns from good to terrible again.
