2. Lawrence is making a lot of money next season

Team owner and “general manager,” Jerry Jones said a couple of seasons ago the team needed a “War Daddy” on defense. For years they couldn’t find anyone to replace DeMarcus Ware who was cut following the 2013 season in a cost-saving move.

The first person they used to try and replace his was DeMarcus Lawrence, a second-round pick they traded up for in 2014. It took a while for him to get going, but Lawrence has become that defensive leader they needed.

More from Dallas Cowboys

He broke out in 2017 with 14.5 sacks and was ready to get paid. He and the Cowboys never came to terms and Lawrence was hit with the franchise tag. He embraced that as a chance to make big money next offseason and it looks like he will.

Lawrence has been huge this season and that continued on Sunday with him sacking Matthew Stafford three times. That gives him 5.5 sacks in the first four games, with a 0.5 sack outing last week against Seattle as his only game without a full sack this season.

The way this team is constructed, they will lean on the defense more than ever. And Lawrence has been the star of this side of the ball and will make a lot of money next season for his work.
