Minnesota Vikings: 3 Players who belong on the trade block
CB Trae Waynes
Coming into the season, Trae Waynes was being built up as a potential breakout star for the Vikings. Instead, that’s been the exact opposite of reality through four games. In fact, Waynes has been a mess at times during the early 2018 campaign.
Just look back at Thursday night if you’re unsure. Waynes was smoked in coverage time and time again, playing a big part in Jared Goff’s career day. His coverage was subpar at best, allowing players like Brandin Cooks, Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods to stuff the stat sheet and keep the game out of reach for Cousins and the Minnesota offense.
Like the final guy on this list, Waynes and the Vikings have a dilemma to tackle this offseason. In the final year of his rookie contract, the young cornerback is scheduled to hit free agency in 2019. Minnesota has already spent big money locking down top defensive talent like Danielle Hunter and Eric Kendricks, which could leave Waynes on the outside looking in come March.
Instead of letting him walk without getting anything in return, Waynes may be traded by the Vikings. It almost makes sense, especially when you consider that they spent their 2018 first-round pick on cornerback Mike Hughes.
Waynes has been solid overall during his days in the Twin Cities. With that said, it took him awhile to come along and he’s still been rather inconsistent. If they decide he isn’t worth inking to a long-term deal, maybe shipping him out for some offensive line help would be the best option.
