Minnesota Vikings: 3 Players who belong on the trade block
OLB Anthony Barr
This may have been one of the worst weeks of Anthony Barr’s life, at least from a football perspective. After getting embarrassed by the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen, he followed up that pitiful performance with a similar struggle against the Rams.
Maybe it’s his impending free agency that has Barr on edge. Maybe he’s simply got a case of the yips. Whatever the situation is, it’s clear that the former first-round pick is off his game. And it’s hurting the Vikings in a big way.
Would a change of scenery fix that? Who knows, and I’m not sure the Vikings want to find out. However, at this point in time, it’s seeming as though Barr’s presence on the field is more a hindrance than a help. Allen spent all of Week 3 getting the best of him, and then he got burnt twice on Thursday night for touchdowns.
With his contract up at the end of the season, the Vikings may not be willing to let him walk. I don’t think Spielman would be opposed to moving him for the right price, especially since other teams are well aware of what he can achieve when on his game. If an enticing offer comes across his desk, you better believe Spielman will at least consider shipping Barr away.
Barr’s been a terrific asset for Minnesota’s defense over the years. Based on his recent work, though, it may be best for him to find a new home in the NFL. If the Vikings find a trade offer they like, don’t be surprised if Spielman pulls the trigger.
