The New York Jets lost 31-12 to the Jacksonville Jaguars at TIAA Bank Stadium. There’s a lot to digest from that game, so let’s dive into it.

In a huge statement game for the New York Jets, they went into Jacksonville and laid an egg. They showed how far they were from even sniffing a playoff berth, let alone even being a viable competitor in the NFL.

The Jets made it somewhat of a contest before the Jaguars pulled away. Even in that, it still wasn’t that close. A look at the final score doesn’t indicate how far these two teams are from each other.

They’re probably not even in the same galaxy in terms of talent (and we’ll get to that). The Jaguars showed why they’re Super Bowl contenders, and the Jets showed why they just may be contenders for a top-10 pick for the third straight draft.

Let’s dive into the serious issues that came out of this game.

3. Severe lack of talent evident

Last season, many accused John Morton of a lack of ingenuity with the offense, maybe it wasn’t Morton after all. Maybe the Jets just didn’t have the player to do what Morton wanted.

The pieces around Darnold are not what makes a winning franchise, let a lone a playoff contender. The obvious disparity in talent was clear between the two teams in this game. The Jets have a long way to go until they can contend for a playoff spot, especially in the AFC.

They’re severely limited in what they can do with this cast on both sides. The coaches may be getting the best they can out of this group, and that’s not where they want to be.
