New York Jets: 3 Big takeaways from loss vs. Jaguars in Week 4
1. Time for a change up top
Regardless of the business, success begins at the top. Many people are calling for the head of Todd Bowles. Well, let’s not forget that Mike Maccagnan was brought in before Bowles and was allowed to hire him. So, if Bowles goes, so does Maccagnan.
It doesn’t matter that Bowles engineered the move that landed Sam Darnold. That move may hamstring the franchise from improving around Darnold in 2019, and given that we don’t know the salary cap situation league-wide in 2020 until after the collective bargaining agreement is signed, that hurts the Jets long-term (for now).
Maccagnan was widely regarded for his football acumen before the Jets hired him to be their general manager in 2015. However, his drafts, haven’t been much to write home about. In addition, when it comes to Bowles, he hasn’t shown to be a good head coach on game day, when his lack decision-making ability seems to shine brightly.
Drafting Darnold doesn’t but Maccagnan time. With Bowles and Maccagnan it’s either keep both and ride the wave, or fire both and start over. The Jets have a franchise quarterback, and they have the face of their defense. Now we need a general manager and coach that can build the rest of the pieces to lead this team to success.
